The cauliflower is different in China.

So yea. China cauliflower. Same same but different.
ANYWAYS as usual I’m trying to cook as healthy and as cheaply as I can without an oven and only my creativity, and wits about me in the wet market to try and figure out what’s in season and therefore, cheap. I also started using a fruit and vegetable wash here. Just trying to minimize the inevitable damage, ya feel?
So when my roommate came home the other night I yelled:
“Guess what I made for breakfast this morning!? Cauliflower porridge!!”
“What?! How do you even think of that?! How do you even have time for that??”
Because I wake up at 6:30 my friend.
So cauliflower is cheap here. China cauliflower is. And there’s a bunch of fun fruit in season! And as much as I would like to have eggs and salsa for breakfast everyday, I’m trying to be creative with food here while I can! So. I wanted cereal. Cereal is expensive in Canada. In China it’s basically the cost of my rent. Not actually, but I ain’t about paying like $10CAD for shitty corn flakes. Oatmeal. Too high of an energy input relative to the amount of sitting I’m doing at work. Then… cauliflower porridge. Stay with me now. It’s actually amazing. Tastes like a slightly sweet, warm bowl of happiness. And look at how pretty it is!!! So, for all you out there that fear the carbs(which is silly by the way), here is a cauliflower porridge recipe that takes like 2 minutes to make, tastes awesome, and is super healthy AND cheap! Who doesn’t want all of that in their life???

Steam the cauliflower until you can pierce with a fork
In the bowl you’re going to be serving your porridge in, mash the banana. (If you don’t have a hand blender add to a table top blender)
Once the cauliflower is ready add it to the bowl with the mashed banana
Roughly chop up the dragon fruit and add to the bowl or blender
Pour the sesame milk on top and add almond extract
Use a hand blender or a table top blender to puree the contents together
Mix in the chia seeds, hemp hearts, and coconut oil
Top with sesame seeds, and chopped fruit
I topped mine with cherries, mango and papaya that I already had chopped up the night before
